V - Folds

A V-fold is essentially a double diagonal. So you fold the garment in half lengthwise then pleat along the diagonal you want to achieve. Easy, but remember -- the pleats go perpendicular to the actual stripe you want.

This didn't turn out very clear at all, the fullness of the gathers interfered with the pleating but it's colorful and the colors did end up where I wanted them.

Very clear, pretty easy to see what happened during pleating to achieve the results shown.

V-folds can be very bold and dynamic. If pleated properly it is one of the clearest and easiest patterns.

Cotton Lycra bikini -- dyed beautifully and the V-fold is very clear.

with Zig-Zags

which are basically repeated V-folds.

Double layered silk skirt, the zig-zag here is fairly subtle despite the bold colors. Compare the colors on this skirt with the color swirl on the next page. The dyes used are the same but look very different on silk versus cotton.

The hems of both of these garments were done with a zig-zag fold. On the dress the double V-fold pattern is very clear.
