Spiked Punch did a good job summing up the Costume Con experience in his post, and I’ll add my "two cents" worth too.
While there weren’t huge numbers of furries in attendance, we were visible and identifiable as an active costuming subculture. And among our furry selves, there was a nice feeling of "family" and community.
Thanks to SLCG as the con hosts, especially for their inclusiion of an array of fursuiting sessions on the programming schedule. And to Robert King for putting the furry programming together!
Thanks also to Robert and the other Chicago area costumers who made me, a relative newbie to costuming and cons, feel included and quite at home…
Spiked already hit the high points of the Masquerades, where fursuits/anthropomorphic entries collected a fair number of the awards. Lance’s Fire and Ice, in a presentation entitled "Opposites Attract", garnered division, workmanship, and Best of Show awards in the SF & Fantasy Masquerade! It was also good to see Daren’s "Ben Fur" entered in the Historical Masq.
I missed out seeing some of the costumes being shown off in the Halls (never in the right place at the right time)-such as Lance’s Sadie Sabertooth and Hyena fursuits. Did get to see the headpieces close up in a couple of the panel sessions though.
Like Spiked, I felt extremely humbled. CostumeCon was an awesome display of top quality costuming –I’m still woefully at the "Mom doesthe School Play and Halloween Trick or Treat" level in my own work.
Still, I always enjoy any excuse to play dress-up in my own raggy bits, and I came away from the weekend at CostumeCon inspired, enthused, and educated.

More and better fursuits in the future…--heather
