CostumeCon 25 Weapons Policy
The following is to be considered
general guidance for the attendees of CostumeCon 25 regarding the display of
costume related weapons in the public areas. As it is impossible to address all
issues specifically, the Security Staff and Con committee reserve the right to
make unilateral decisions as necessary.
1. A 'common sense' policy will prevail.
Realistic looking weapons and dangerous conduct will draw more attention from
the Security Staff than obviously outlandish ray guns and peace-bonded costume
appropriate weaponry. Situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis, with
the Security Staff and CC25 Con Chairs being the final authority.
2. No actual firearms are allowed. All realistic firearms will be cheerfully
inspected, perhaps more than once. Airsoft guns must remain unloaded.
3. No live or blank ammo will be allowed, either with or without a firearm.
Dummy/inert rounds and realistic castings will be allowed but will be
inspected.
4. Edged weapons (swords, axes, knives, etc.) will be obviously blunt or
sheathed except during posing for photos in designated areas.
5. Clubs, staffs, canes and the like will be evaluated more on the conduct of
the costumer than the actual item. Carry these items, don't flail about.
6. All weapons will be costume related. No wandering the halls in street clothes
with submachine guns and broadswords please…
7. If transporting weapons from vehicle or dealers'
room to hotel room, etc. please place in container, wrap and/or move your items
as unobtrusively as possible. While it is tempting to proudly brandish your new
battleaxe, hotel security, con security and the local law enforcement officers
will not share your enthusiasm.
8. The Historical and Sci Fi/Fantasy Masquerades will have their own Weapons
Policies which will be adhered to while costumers are in the jurisdiction of
that event. The overall convention Weapons Policy does not supercede the
Masquerade Weapons Policies. Please refer to the Masquerade Rules for
clarification.
9. Inebriation (drunkenness) may be grounds for a weapons time-out. You may be
asked to take your weapons back to your room in the interest of everyone's
safety. An escort to your room and/or weapons confiscation will be used as
appropriate in extreme cases.
10. Please comply with any instructions given to you by the Security Staff or
Con Committee. We are not there to harass costumers but for safety and peaceful
conduct of the convention. You will be treated with respect and we ask the same
in return.
11. Weapons, costumes, items, props or devices that the Security Staff evaluates
as presenting a danger to the wearer or others will not be allowed. Costumers
will be asked to return unsafe items to their rooms. Please consult with the
Security Staff if you have any doubts about your costume items.
12. If you have specific Weapons Policy questions prior to the con, please contact the CC25 Security Chief as listed on the website or flyer.
