Dos and Don'ts at a Costume-Con

DO bring your costumes & wear something new/fun every day. Save your best for the masquerades (Hall costumes are not generally competed on stage). This is your chance to wear lots of new stuff!

DO eat. Regularly. Lack of food makes you light-headed & cranky - we don't recommend it.

DO get plenty of rest before and during the con. See above, lack of sleep can also be dangerous to yourself and those around you.

If you're in the audience at a masquerade, DON'T talk to your friends loudly. Please go outside of the masq hall or wait till the break - that way you won't miss anything!

DO respect other people's boundaries. Ask to photograph or touch their costumes first. Most will say "Yes" - try it, it's fun!

DO please be patient with all con staff and tech people. They're all volunteers, trying to help you & enjoy the con themselves when possible. And see lack of food & sleep notes above to explain lapses.

DO try to finish your costume before you get to the con so you can enjoy the whole experience. It's no fun to be in your room all weekend! Being grounded used to be a punishment.

DON'T bring any messy substances near people's costumes. Or cigarettes. Or liquids.

DO talk to new people. Talk to old friends. Talk to everybody, including the hotel staff. Make it a game to meet at least 3 new people every couple of hours.
